St Andrew's Church / Cinematic FPV

«Do you see these mountains? The grace of God shines on these mountains; and there shall be a great city, and many churches shall God build». Ancient chronicles tells that St. Andrew's Church was built on a sacred hill: the Apostle Andrew the First-Called, the one who will be considered the patron of Ukraine, will personally put up a cross on the hill and foretell the appearance of both the church and the city. Who knows whether this was not a legend invented by Volodymyr the Great at a time when there was a growing need to spread Christianity among the people of Kievan Rus. The first church on this site was built in 1086, but namely St. Andrew's Church was built in the 18th century on the initiative of Empress Elizabeth Petrivna and designed by architect Francesco Rastrelli. The construction of the temple lasted 15 years, and the Empress never had the opportunity to see it live. The twentieth century brought difficult times to the church: one of the Russian emperors wanted to demolish it and build fortifications on the site. Later, lightning struck the church several times, and three times it miraculously survived. On the eve of World War II, when the Soviet authorities banned all manifestations of faith in God, the Sofia Anti-Religious Museum was housed in the church. But during the war, services in St. Andrew's Church were resumed. Today, almost 300 years later, St. Andrew's Church is open to all. Its gilded ornaments, carved details of the iconostasis and breathtaking canvases impress with their beauty again.
